Borobudur – the Temple of Heaven on Earth: International Inauguration and ‘the Rain of Blessings’ Festival

Opening of the great prayer festival to be held from July 21 to September 18, featuring Tibetan lamas and monks from different monasteries in our tradition.

Over 50 Tibetan Lamas and monks, from important monasteries in India, Nepal and Europe, will be guests of the Centre to officiate at various traditional ceremonies and to reinvigorate the blessing of the Temple so that it can be for us and for all, as taught by Lama Gangchen Rinpoche, a place of pilgrimage, healing and prayer, a place where, with every comfort, we can study, meditate and practise the Dharma now and for a long time to come. The event is dedicated to inner, world and environmental peace, and in particular to the swift return of Drubwang Gangchen Rinpoche.

Sand mandala of Yamantaka and the thirteen deities

In the traditional way, starting with the drawing and completing with colored sands, the monks will build the Yamantaka mandala. The mandala is a symbolic representation of the purified universe, is the dwelling – in plan – of a tantric deity and constitutes a meditative path according to tantra instructions.

The benefits of viewing and constructing the Yamantaka mandala are the decrease of energies related to anger and hatred and the increase of peace, inner stability of beings and environmental balance.

This mandala will be the meditative basis for the Rabne Chenmo ritual that will take place from July 28 to August 1.

The perfection of wisdom, the Prajnaparamita, is encapsulated in the Heart Sutra of Wisdom. This Sutra is the heart of the Buddhist teachings of the Mahayana school and is practiced in China, Japan, Southeast Asia and Tibet. The enlightened Avalokitesvara, in a large assembly of monks and sages answered a question from the sage Shariputra about the correct way to perceive the five aggregates. He explained the Five Paths to Enlightenment, and the profound transcendental knowledge of emptiness, which is the best way to eliminate internal and external interferences.

Four mandala of Tara Chittamani puja

The practice of Tara Chittamani is a special method in Tibetan Buddhism which helps to dissipate interferences and liberate sentient beings from any form of fear and dangers. The practice permits one to identify with the pure crystal energy of the female divinity Tara which actually is an archetype of the pure female energy free from fear. Tara is also known as the Liberator and Swift Heroine for the speed which characterizes her intervention. The special energy of Tara who is the consort of Buddha Amoghasiddhi, the Supreme Healer of fear, is the key to overcoming all external, internal and secret fears.

Her practice gives many benefits, but in particular it eliminates interferences to life and health, protects against natural disasters, increases personal success and wealth, and promotes the virtuous activities of practitioners and Dharma Centers.

Sitatapatra  (in tibetan Dukkar), is considered to be a special manifestation of Tara as well as the female equivalent of Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Her White Umbrella has the power to protect against negative information, astrological influences, collective violence and the causes that create psychological problems, as well as to pacify obstacles, arguments and fights. She not only helps us to defeat over external violence but also to heal our personal inner violence that incites us to behave in aggressive and violent ways in every moment of our daily life.

The practice of Vajrayogini, one of the most important of the Mahanuttara Yoga Tantra, the highest class of Tantra, is considered one of the most powerful of all Buddhist Tantric meditations. Buddha emanated Vajrayogini, a special female enlightened being, 2500 years ago. She is the female counterpart of Heruka, the Lord of the Heroes, and she teaches us how to attain enlightenment through purifying our female essence, our dakini nature. In the course of centuries many high lamas, yogis and accomplished Mahasiddhas have explained that the tantra of Vajrayogini is an excellent antidote against the damages brought about by an excess of avidity and greed. Furthermore they stated that with the increasing levels of the moral and energetic degeneration of the planet, the Vajrayogini Tantra would have also acquired an increasingly greater power and that the realisations brought about by it’s practice can lead to Enlightenment in a single lifetime. This practice is particularly indicated for those who are consumed by desire; it is very simple although it contains the essence of all the tantras. Practicing with sincerity, it can help resolve desperate situations and lead quickly to the Pureland of the Dakinis and to the Clear Light of Bliss.

In Tibetan iconography, Palden Lhamo rides a wild donkey and her ferocious appearance subjugates the energies that hinder the spiritual path. Her practice facilitates liberation from attachment and helps to develop female wisdom, strength, equanimity and a sense of justice. She reminds us that in order to become psychologically strong and escape from personal and collective samsara we must honor the wisdom of the divine feminine and reconcile with Mother Nature.

Palden Lhamo or Magsor Ghialmo is the wrathful aspect of the female Buddha Saraswati, the wrathful and protective manifestation of Tara and also a form of Mahakali, the feminine aspect of Avalokiteshvara.

Historically, she is one of the main protectors of the Buddha’s teaching.

Jangchok, a purification and accumulation of merit ceremony dedicated to the deceased. An ancient practice, part of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism, which connects with those who have already left the body to perform a process of purification, accumulation of virtuous energy and blessing.

On the occasion of the 27th International Day dedicated to the Ganden Nyengyu lineage and its protector Dorje Shugden, all monasteries in Tibet, Nepal, India and Mongolia and Dharma centers in Europe, the Americas, Asia and around the world are organizing, on this day, various rituals and sacred ceremonies and thus pray together for the long life of Dharma holders, for harmony among practitioners of the spiritual path, for the resolution of crises and conflicts in the world and for the pacification of natural disasters.
