Lama Gangchen’s Dedication to Mongolia’s Buddhism

Lama Gangchen Tulku Rinpoche’s connection to Mongolia, rooted in past lives, inspired his dedication to preserving its Buddhist tradition. He led pilgrimages, organised traditional medicine conferences dedicated to world peace, and welcomed Mongolian lamas and artists to all NgalSo centres in Europe.

Through his close friendship with H.E. Guru Deva Tulku Rinpoche, a key figure in Buddhism’s revival in Mongolia, Lama Gangchen deeply influenced the country’s spiritual life. In 2004, he led a pilgrimage with sacred Buddha relics across Mongolia, earning an honorary Doctorate from Zanavajra Buddhist University.

The Yurt of Albagnano

As a lasting symbol of this bond, the Albagnano yurt—gifted to Lama Gangchen and maintained by his disciples’ generosity—was set up overnight on July 26, 2016. Decorated with traditional sacred prints of Dorje Shugden’s five emanations, the yurt faces Gangchen Labrang, offering protection to the sacred space and resident masters. It has served as a practice gompa where Lama Gangchen gave teachings and Sangha members received Chöd transmissions from Venerable Tendar Rinpoche, continuing this tradition. Blessed by His Holiness Trijang Chötrul Rinpoche, the yurt has hosted Rabne Chenmo ceremonies and is recognised as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO since 2016.

The extraordinary maintenance

This summer, the yurt received a new protective cover to guard against weather damage, a more durable dome, and a renewed floor. These upgrades, provided by a specialised Swiss supplier, are being supported through this fundraising campaign covering materials, shipping, and customs fees.

To support this fundraising initiative, a presentation on the history of the Albagnano Yurt was held in the Temple on 10th August 2025, followed by a Chöd ceremony hosted in the Yurt. The ceremony was led by the monks of SharGaden Monastery along with the AHMC Chöd practice group and was open to everyone.

The work is complete, but the fundraising is still ongoing—your support is needed!
