Since childhood, Keiko - granddaughter of a samurai - has been practicing martial arts, alongside piano and opera singing. She studied Aikidō in Ueshiba dōjō, the Honbun dōjō, and Kashima Shinryū martial art in Kunii Zen’ya dōjō until she became a teacher herself in the prestigious Meiji Temple in Tōkyō. During the years she reaches the highest degree in different disciplines: 3° dan Jūdō, 5° dan Aikidō, 8° dan Nihon budō, and in 2019 she received the 9° dan Jūjitsu, at age 88. Since 2001, she has been living in Cecina, Italy, where she owns a dōjō. During her career she taught defence techniques to the Italian Folgore Paratroops and she has often accompanied Bagnulo-sensei in his Jūjutsu seminars, both abroad and in Italy. On the 23rd November, Wakabayashi-sensei will turn 90.
