Geshe Tara

Chonze Geshe Taraa was ordained as a Buddhist monk in 2000, at the age of ten. In 2002, he entered Gaden Monastery in India, one of the principal seats of the Gelug tradition, where he began his formal monastic training in the living traditions of Himalayan Buddhism. In over two decades of study and training, he has followed the classical Tibetan Buddhist curriculum, based on rigorous study of Buddhist philosophical texts, debate, and contemplative practice. Through study and meditation, he has developed a solid foundation that integrates meticulous academic research with religious practice. In 2024, Geshe Taraa became a Geshe Lharampa, the highest academic degree in the Gelug tradition, equivalent to a modern Ph.D. His dissertation focused on the profound philosophical doctrine of emptiness (śūnyatā), demonstrating an advanced commitment to the analysis of classical Madhyamaka texts and their major interpretive traditions. Geshe Taraa is currently a resident of the Albagnano Healing Meditation Centre, where he works in the Temple library. He continues to contribute to the intellectual and spiritual life of the monastic and lay communities through teaching, study, and practice, upholding the values and traditions of Himalayan Buddhism.
