INTRODUCTION

Sitting together for a retreat is a precious and wonderful opportunity. We joyfully await your possible presence at this retreat guided by Samatha-Vipassana teacher Bhante Anuruddha. This Samatha-Vipassana retreat will be directed towards experienced students and new yogis. We will begin working, with some teachings and the practice of Anapanasati, to strengthen our capacity for clear and focused attention. We will then move on to Vipassana/Insight teachings and practices based on the four domains/foundations of mindfulness, through a general overview of the teachings, and engage in practice with this perspective… together with some specific insight teachings and practices based on mindfulness.

In the following days we will bring attention back to the practice of Anapanasati to continue strengthening and deepening our capacity for clear and focused attention, until it appears in our body/mind/heart continuum.

During the retreat we will observe the five precepts of a lay practitioner. Those who wish to explore the practice by observing the eight precepts are welcome. Together we will have daily evening Dhamma talks, Dhamma contemplation and/or guided sessions, as well as shorter morning reflections and/or practice instructions (mostly in the morning during the group session after breakfast). Bhante Anuruddha offers each student individual practice meetings every two days. Some students may choose to sit more independently. This option can be discussed with the teacher during practice meetings.
