New rooms with lake views for your stay at the Centre
The Colonia is a five-storey building located in the village of Albagnano, with large terraces offering splendid views of the lake. Renovation work began in February 2026, to convert the building into a guesthouse. This new facility will have 17 rooms with en-suite bathrooms, one apartment, and a common room, providing a total of 38 additional beds for visitors and practitioners. The building will be powered primarily by renewable energy and will have an elevator to facilitate access for people with mobility disabilities. The two large existing terraces will be kept, from where guests can relax and enjoy quality time.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The history of the Colonia and the vision of Lama Gangchen Rinpoche
During the early years of the Albagnano Centre, Lama Gangchen Rinpoche devoted considerable energy to finding spaces for Dharma practice and places to welcome visitors. The Colonia, generously donated to Lama Gangchen Rinpoche by Mr. Felix Chen in 2002, served for years as a hub for teachings, retreats, conferences and social gatherings. Renamed Tashi Gomang—The Many Auspicious Doors of Gangchen—it was a refuge for those arriving from abroad or other cities who had nowhere to stay. Until 2020, it hosted Karma Yoga practitioners, people who wished to learn more about the Dharma by assisting our teachers and the Centre. The Colonia is part of a “healing mandala” that includes the Temple, the Stupa, the Centre building, and the surrounding gardens.

Economic sustainability
The renovation budget is €1.4 million. 30% of the costs will be covered by Kunpen Lama Gangchen, while the remainder will be financed through a loan with a credit agreement. This loan will be repaid through fundraising activities, involving the sangha, and with the proceeds from the future guesthouse. Thanks to this system, the bank will only provide the necessary credit. Therefore, the more funds raised, the lower the debt. Every contribution—small or large—will help build this space for hospitality, dedicated to relaxation and group activities.
