Samatha-Vipassana and Insight Dialogue Silence Meditation Retreat
Join us for a transformative residential retreat exploring the profound practices of Buddhist meditation as pathways to freedom from suffering.
About the Retreat
This retreat offers an immersive journey into two complementary meditation traditions. We will begin with the classical solitude practices of Samatha-Vipassana meditation, cultivating both mental tranquility (samatha) and penetrating insight (vipassana). Building upon this foundation, we will also explore Insight Dialogue, a contemporary relational practice that brings meditative awareness into interpersonal connection.
What You Will Experience
Traditional Solitude Practice: Through seated and walking meditation, you will develop concentration and clarity of mind (samatha) while investigating the nature of experience with mindful awareness (vipassana). These time-honored practices form the foundation of Buddhist meditation and offer direct access to inner peace and wisdom.
Walking Meditation: Experience the practice of mindful walking as a complement to seated meditation, bringing full awareness to each step and the sensations of movement, grounding yourself in the present moment.
The Four Protective Meditations: You will be guided through four powerful meditations traditionally practiced for protection and spiritual development:
Buddhanussati (Recollection of the Buddha): Contemplating the qualities and virtues of the Buddha to inspire confidence and devotion
Mettanussati (Recollection of Loving-Kindness): Cultivating boundless goodwill and compassion toward all beings
Asubhanussati (Reflection on Impermanence of the Body): Developing insight into the nature of the physical form
Maranānussati (Recollection of Death): Contemplating mortality to bring urgency, clarity, and appreciation to our practice and life
Insight Dialogue: This practice extends contemplative awareness into relationship, allowing us to explore mindfulness, concentration, and insight while in dialogue with others. Through guided interpersonal meditation, we discover how awareness can be maintained even in the midst of communication and connection.
The Noble Eightfold Path: Throughout the retreat, we will explore the Noble Eightfold Path—the Buddha’s teaching on liberation from suffering. Together we will examine how Right View, Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration form an integrated path toward awakening and freedom.

This retreat welcomes both those new to meditation and experienced practitioners. Whether you are seeking tools for managing stress, deepening your spiritual practice, or understanding the Buddhist path to liberation, you will find support and guidance in a container of silence, mindfulness, and community.
