Words of Buddha
About this project:
Our goal is to paginate and print on rice paper the English translations of the 84,000 sutras that compose the Kangyur (the collection recording Buddha’s speech) in the traditional Tibetan petcha format, to be housed in the Library of the Temple of Heaven on Earth.
Why is it important?
Traditionally all Buddhist monasteries and temples house a copy of the Kangyur. These texts, recording the words of Buddha, are at the base of all Buddhist philosophy and are considered so important because they hold a treasury of energy that confer blessings on the environment and the people in it.
In this digital age, the Library will create a place of peace where one can escape from the stress of digital communications that harm our concentration, attention and ability to memorise information, by offering to all those wishing to deepen their understanding of the Buddha’s teachings these most precious texts for reading, consultation, personal study and inspiration.
Materials and equipment
In addition to the rice paper, a petcha format printer has been purchased and is already in operation. In order to catalogue and preserve the texts in the Library, traditional fabrics and brocades will be purchased to cover the texts.
Human resources
Multiple people will work on this project to: paginate, proof-read, print, wrap and catalogue the texts in the Library.
