Tibetan Bowls – First Level Seminar
dalle 10.00 am – 1.00 pm e 3.30 pm- 6.00 pm
The training program proposed by Master Thonla is structured into three basic levels and numerous specialization opportunities. The aim of the project is not only to train holistic practitioners specialized in Tibetan bowls but also to open a pathway for each participant to access their own inner self through sound harmonies. Therefore, the offering mobilizes not only individual technical skills but also deeper spiritual dimensions.
In the FIRST LEVEL, participants will engage in the knowledge of bowls and sound production: the history, culture, and techniques of creating ancient and modern bowls will be illustrated, exploring their forms and sound qualities. Connections between sound, body, and mind will be explained, alongside a true philosophy of sound based on its masculine or feminine nature and the way it is produced. Images and texts from Himalayan wisdom will be used to approach the bowl at a subtler level than is usually done. The practical part of this first level will focus on techniques for producing sound, both masculine and feminine or resonant. There will be moments for both group and individual practice where fundamental self-treatment methods will be learned. In addition to booking participation in the course, accommodation must be reserved by directly contacting the reception at Email: reception@kunpen.it.For general information and reservations, you can contact tibetmilano@gmail.com or visit the website www.dharmasound.it.
THE PROCEEDS FROM THE COURSE WILL BE USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR CHARITABLE ACTIVITIES.

The opening event of this year’s CROSS Festival is a set of short performances featuring Indian dancers Sooraj Subramaniam and Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi, internationally renowned exponents of Indian classical dance. The programme mixes Odissi and contemporary dance, interweaving nritta (pure dance) and abhinaya (expressive dance), reinterpreting traditional themes in a modern key and exploring nuances and peculiarities of the different universes.
Sooraj Subramaniam is an internationally renowned choreographer, dancer, and innovator. He trained in Bharatanatyam and Odissi at the Sutra Dance Theatre, in Kathak with Urja Desai Thakore, and in Western classical dance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He has collaborated with Srishti, Akademi, Balbir Singh Dance Company, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance, Nicole Kohler, Kalpana Raghuraman, Seeta Patel, and the Maghenta Collective. His work challenges aesthetic boundaries, fusing Indian dance traditions with contemporary influences to create a hybrid and deeply personal artistic expression.
Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi is a trainer in yoga, dance, and kalaripayattu, as well as a choreographer and Odissi dancer. She began her journey under Pratap Narayan, completing eight years of training and graduating from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. Since 2016, she has continued her studies with Bijayini Sathpathy and Pratibha Reddy, and has performed with the prestigious Nrityagram Dance Ensemble. As a teacher, she is recognised for the clarity of her instruction, both in practice and theory. Rukmini’s distinctive Odissi style and pedagogical approach are unique, leading her to travel extensively and engage in cross-disciplinary research that bridges Odissi with other traditional art forms.
Programme:
Mangalcharan – An auspicious beginning
with Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi
Mangalacharan is the opening rite of the traditional repertoire of classical Odissi dance. It’s a devotional invocation dedicated to Madatangi, worshipped in Tantra as goddess of of knowledge and the arts. The dance begins with the performer offering prayers to her Ishtadeva, the divine form to which she is most devoted. With elegant and meaningful gestures, the dancer expresses gratitude and respect, concluding with a greeting addressed to the Divine, the spiritual masters and the audience. Mangalacharan prepares the dancer and the audience for an inner journey, creating a link between art, devotion and beauty.

Pallavi
with Sooraj Subramaniam
Pallavi, meaning ‘to blossom’ or ‘to elaborate’, is a dance that builds on the sculptural poses characteristic of Odissi dance to create a picture of moving images. The Sabhinaya Pallavi is a fundamental component of Guru Debaprasad Das’s choreographic style, in which the rhythm of the pure dance merges with a short and intense expressive and sung part. The song that accompanies this dance, written by the Banamali saint, celebrates the beauty and magnetic power of Krishna that captivates and enraptures the heart of the beholder.

Battu
with Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi
Battu Nritta is a pure dance that emphasises the dancer’s extraordinary technical skill. Inspired by the refined sculptures that decorate temples, this dance transforms iconic poses carved in stone into fluid and elegant movements. Characterised by rhythm and precision, this choreography synchronises each gesture with the complex beats of the percussion. Battu Nritta is a tribute to the beauty of sacred architecture and the perfect harmony between art, dance and music.

Astapadi
with Sooraj Subramaniam
The Astapadi are a series of love songs written by the poet Jayadeva in the 12th century, which narrate and celebrate the love between Radha and Krishna. In this dance, Radha is consumed with anger at what she perceives as Krishna’s betrayal, while he begs her forgiveness and tries to win her back with words of praise and passion, comparing Radha to the moonlight that melts the darkness of his heart.

Moksh – A journey to liberation
by Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi
Moksh is a Sanskrit term meaning ‘liberation’. This dance, true to its name, invites both dancer and audience to transcend the boundaries of the material world, leading to a state of pure transcendence. Through an intense and energetic crescendo, Moksh seems to suspend time, leaving both dancer and audience immersed in deep silence and contemplation. Moksh becomes a transformative experience, inviting inner connection and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who witness it.

Nimbus
by and with Sooraj Subramaniam
Inspired by the Latin term for a luminous rain cloud, Nimbus is a contemporary dance performance that explores the concept of viraha, or love in detachment, a central theme in classical Indian poetry. Through an abstract reinterpretation of Indian dance, the work uses the image of the cloud to represent the swirl of expectations and desires, playing with light and shadow in a distant relationship with the beloved. This desire turns into loss and despair as the cloud fades and vanishes, inviting a new awareness.

dance and Kalaripayattu
recommended to attend 2 days
The artist and performer Arianna Romano proposes two days of training in the martial art of Kalaripayattu, a traditional Indian discipline in which the dancer received specific training in India, later developing between India and Italy an eclectic path that combines contemporary dance with traditional arts. The workshop focuses on the founding animal figures of the Kalari, i.e. positions and movements that evoke the energy and symbolism of animal bodies with the aim of discovering one’s own instinctive strength.
Arianna Romano explores body practices rooted in Indian tradition through ongoing research that unfolds between Italy and India, articulated in a personal and contemporary language. In India, she undertook specific training, graduating in the martial art of Kalaripayattu at the renowned Kalarigram school, and completing the Advanced Training in Interpretation and Choreography (FAICC) at Compagnia Instável. Her research delves into the psychological sphere in relation to the concept of transcendence and spirituality—ranging from animal instincts and relational dynamics to the higher realms of metaphysical existence. Her martial and yogic training shapes both her artistic language and the themes she investigates, through a strong emphasis on technique. She is the choreographer and director of the performances Vislumbres do Além / Glimpses of Beyond, Purgatorio, Wild | Animal Memories, and From Above and From Within. She has worked as a performer with Gustavo Ciríaco, Roberta Carreri and Carolina Pizarro (Odin Teatret), Chiara Guidi (Societas Raffaello Sanzio), and Leonardo Delogu (Casa Dom); and as an assistant to Roberta Carreri and Carolina Pizarro at Odin Teatret.

This is the story of how a sacred place is created, how a lineage remains alive and, most importantly, how the life of one person can transform the lives of many. This story first began with Lama Gangchen Rinpoche, who left Tibet in 1963. During his years in India, he pondered where to settle to share his knowledge, experiences and traditions, and how to keep them alive for future generations. The dream of five mountains with a central mountain and a lake in front guided him to Albagnano, in Verbania, Italy.

This is the history of how a holy place is created, of how a lineage is kept alive, and most of all, of how the life of one person can transform the lives of many. The story of today started first of all with Lama Gangchen Rinpoche, who left Tibet in 1963. During his years in India, he was thinking about where to establish himself in order to share his knowledge, experiences, and tradition, and where to keep it alive for future generations. The dream of five mountains with a central mountain and a lake in front led him to Albagnano in Verbania, Italy.
The Dharma is precious and has no price. Therefore, in accordance with tradition, an offering can be made for this activity according to each person’s possibilities and choice.

HATHA YOGA
con Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi (IN), e Igor Orifici al flauto (IT)
Hatha Yoga is a discipline originating in India that unites body, breath and mind through postural practices and breathing techniques, promoting balance, well-being and awareness. This practice facilitates meditation and inner concentration, preparing the ground for a profound psychophysical transformation. During the workshop, led by Indian dancer Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi, musician Igor Orifici will accompany the practice with live traditional Indian flute music, creating an atmosphere of harmony and total immersion.
Rukmini Vyas Dwivedi is a yoga, dance and kalaripayattu trainer, choreographer and Odissi dance dancer. She started her journey with Pratap Narayan completing an 8-year training and graduating from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya. Since 2016, she has continued her training with Bijayini Sathpathy and Pratihra Reddy and performed with the prestigious Nrityagram Dance Ensamble. As a teacher, she is recognised for the clarity of her teaching in both practical and theoretical terms. Rukmini’s Odissi style and her pedagogical methods are unique, leading her to travel all over the world and to activate transversal research paths also in other traditional disciplines.
Igor Orifici has been studying Indian music and bansuri flute since 1997 under the guidance of Lorenzo Squillari, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Supriyo Dutta and several masters of Milon Mela Source’s Research Theatre in Italy and India. He has a diploma from the Conservatory of Vicenza and a degree in Science of Music and Performing Arts from the University of Milan. He is president and animator of the cultural association Albero Baniano aps, teaches in a Montessori-inspired middle school and holds seminars, concerts and performances in Italy and abroad.

dance and Kalaripayattu
recommended to attend 2 days

Sinfonia H2O is a tribute to the essence of water, sacred source of life, origin of everything and guardian of memory. This work by Tecnologia Filosofica turns out to be a collective ritual, sound and visual; a symphony between dance and sound to reflect on the withering of our time and the need to keep our imagination alive, today more than ever. The experience invites us to immerse ourselves in a profound reflection on the fragile harmony of our planet, evoking the link between life and the climate change that threatens it. The stage is transformed into an archipelago of mirrors, where the body comes alive and the flow of sounds and actions envelops us. Singular objects -springs, scales, hourglasses- emerge as instruments in an imaginary alchemic laboratory. In this space of wonder, everything merges: water becomes a voice, the body becomes a wave and space a single universe: when you look at water, you look at the whole of humanity.

Vajrayoghini Dajug: self-empowerment of Vajrayogini
The practice of Vajrayogini, one of the most important of the Mahanuttara Yoga Tantra, the highest class of Tantra, is considered one of the most powerful of all Buddhist Tantric meditations. Buddha emanated Vajrayogini, a special female enlightened being, 2500 years ago. She is the female counterpart of Heruka, the Lord of the Heroes, and she teaches us how to attain enlightenment through purifying our female essence, our dakini nature. It is an excellent antidote against limitless attachment and greed and the realisations brought about by it’s practice can lead to Enlightenment in a single lifetime.

Walk in the woods
In collaboration with MAGGIORE DANZA
Storia di un ruscello is a story told through images, a dance written for a performer and a stone. In Erica Meucci’s debut project as author, the work draws inspiration from the ecological ideas of anarchist geographer Élisée Reclus who’s stating that reconnecting with other living beings requires recognizing our own vulnerability and exposure to danger –liberating ourselves from the notion of domination and instead engaging with the environments we pass through, allowing ourselves to be shaped by them. Reclus’ philosophy intertwines with a real event: the loss of an animal in the woods and its eventual discovery in the waters of a waterfall. The image of its suspended body, caressed by the flowing waters, and the time that seems to dilate without boundaries imprint themselves on the dancer’s body, oscillating between spatial and acoustic voids and solids, between the solidity of the stone and the transience of the watercourse. Throughout the performance, the dancer moves upon the stone without ever stepping off. This constraint forces the body to continuously rewrite its own geography and equilibrium, heightening its sensitivity to even the slightest changes. The figure stands out in the landscape and experiences the scene as a place of great vulnerability.

Erica Meucci is a dancer, choreographer, and curator whose work focuses on the body in relation to open spaces, particularly wooded and wild environments. Her research is dedicated to developing sensory and subtle practices that explore the small and the invisible, treating the body in its raw essence as a field traversed by forces. She studied at the Paolo Grassi School of Theatre in Milan and, over time, engaged with artists such as Dominique Dupuy, Myriam Gourfink, Kat Válastur, Romeo Castellucci, Claudia Castellucci, and Chiara Guidi. In recent years, she has focused on studying minimal movement with Giovanni Campo and practicing yoga with Francesca Proia, earning certification as a teacher. Meucci has danced for Gruppo MK, Effetto Larsen, I Figli di Marla, JA Dupont, Daniel Abreu, Silvana Barbarini, Fattoria Vittadini, and Collettivo Baladam B-side. She has also collaborated with sound artist and Deep Listening facilitator Diana Lola Posani, as well as queer artist, DJ, and producer Splendour. Her works have been presented at Errant Sound, BAM, Mercurio Festival, Dot Festival, Danzare a Monte, Teatro Comandini, Fabbrica del Vapore, Festival Orizzonti Verticali, PARC in Florence, Festival S. Rocc, Teatro Niccolini, and Teatro Verdi in Padua. In the curatorial field, she has worked on the project ORA – Orobie Residenze Artistiche and the program Rami d’ORA, collaborating with Francesca Siracusa and Riccardo Olivier near Sondrio, on the edge of the Parco delle Orobie Valtellinesi.
